Defining Characteristics
So far, majority of specimens from batch ID #AnthuriumCrossFire exhibit a range of diversity and have been observed to inherit strongly from the seeding parent Velvet Shadow’s distinctive purple-blue colouring in emergent leaves. Some similarity can also be observed to its maternal grandparents (motherplant Velvet Shadow is reported contains a mix of Papililaminum, Dressleri, Sanguinem, Crystallinum and Forgetii traits).
Notable features are purple-blue iridescent colouring with papililaminum complex resemblances.
A number exhibit a bullate ‘bumpy’ texture in some in a number.
Outliers features pink sinus button insertion point and/or pink crystalline veins in a small minority.
This observation is consistent with other known well known warocqueanum hybrids such as Foxy Lady (crystallinum aff x warocqueanum, Equatorial Exotics) and Big Trouble (magnificum verde x warocqueanum, Esoterica Exotica). Which are exhibit muted warocqueanum features visually and were all made using warocqueanum as pollen parent rather than seeding parent), batch ID #AnthuriumCrossFire appear to grows quickly and flowers early, and attaining much greater sizes compared to similar aged seedlings in the cardiolonchium section.
In contrast to the distinct dominant traits of warocqueanum in hybrids made using warocqueanum as seeding motherplant, it appears the phenotype of warocqueanum may be less dominant when used as a breeding pollen plant.
Consistent with this, a small minority does appear to exhibit both parents traits with elongated pollen warocqueanum traits.
Parents
Seed parent (inner) is a complex hybrid well known in Australia as Anthurium ‘Velvet Shadow’. pollen parent (outer) is Anthurium warocqueanum (both pictured) Above.
Known Hybrids
In 2022, flowering specimens from Batch ID #AnthuriumCrossFire was observed to both set seed and produce pollen.
Second generation of this batch (F2) were made using select examples by its hybridiser Alicia @wild.about.plants
Hybrids with other members of cardiolonchium species also yielded seeds. Of particular interest, a cross with its pollen parent Anthurium warocqueanum was made, resulting in seeds that contain approximately up to 75% warocqueanum genes and 25% ‘Velvet Shadow’ genes.
